Your Best Find: Wimpy's Original Burger

(via the Philadelphia Inquirer)

What is it: A new hamburger restaurant in an old house along Providence Road (Rt 252) in Upper Providence, Just outside Media.

What I like about it: The cheeseburgers are what you dream of when you want to enjoy a cheeseburger, fries, and shake. The people are friendly, and service is very prompt. The fries or onion rings make a super side for the burger. All portions are generous and served hot, straight from the grill. This sums it up: As I walked in, a very happy-looking woman said to me: "Have you tried the burgers? They're to die for."

Atmosphere: A kind of a retro neighborhood hamburger joint. It is clean and bright, with counter seats and picnic tables out front and, of course, takeout. It is very casual and friendly.

What else it serves: A large variety of sandwiches, hoagies, steaks, hot dogs, chili, platters, salads. The menus is so big that I haven't tasted most of the items. Plus, it is hard to order anything else when the burgers are grilling right in front of your eyes and nose. The roast beef griller is a generous mound of beef, provolone and roasted peppers grilled in a panini ($5.99). Luckily, it was served in a takeout container, because I could only eat half. The milkshakes are creamy good, and there is

a large selection of sodas and drinks. There's even a separate menu of ice cream, both custard and hard.

Prices: The basic burger is $3.09. The cheeseburger (big) is $3.39, or double it for an extra $1.49 (only if you are really hungry), with some special selections for about $1 more. Most steaks and sandwiches are in the $5 to $6 range. You get a lot for your money, and you don't leave hungry.
